When she told me no, I’m thinking I just about died.
But you told me she would come around and that she only turned me down
because she thinks you need me in your life.

You said
“once she see’s that you’re gone and I'm doing just fine,
she’ll come back to you and she won’t have an excuse.
She’ll see the truth and then she’ll change her mind.”

But I don’t know how likely that is.
She left me feeling small and insignificant
When she rejected me on Christmas Eve I felt myself lose hope
So maybe it’s better now if I just let her go.

Now maybe I’m wrong, but I’m not quite convinced that you’re right.
Though I guess that there were signs when she would laugh and she would look at me
that said she felt the same a couple times.
You say “She’ll show up when she knows that there’s no you and I.”
You tell me once you disappear,
that when you’re gone no longer here,
she’ll gladly fill the void left by my side.

But I don’t know how likely that is.
Still, you insist on keeping your distance
You’ve been avoiding me since New Year's Eve and I don’t know what to do.
Because it’s one thing if she stays away from me but it’s another if it’s you.

I don’t think that this is what I wanted.
It’s not quite the way I imagined it in my head.
Maybe there’s a chance that I can, take back what I did.
But I don’t know how likely that is.
