Do you remember on Christmas eve we went to that party?
You told me it’s your favourite time of year.
With the way, the town’s lit up and the air is filled with love
So you decided it was time I go and face my fears.
You told me you’d be my angel of love, my shining light.
That you’d help me get the girl here on the holiest of nights.
That Christmas Eve we showed up at the party,
my head was filled with doubts my heart astir.
You said as long as I keep calm, take a breath, it won’t be long
until she’s walking in and I’ll be next to her.
So I waited while the night died down, but she was nowhere to be seen,
when it dawned on me you’d disappeared as well.
Then I heard that you were headed home once you told her I where I was.
That you didn’t want interfere when she finally did show up.
But I didn’t want to be there, unless you could be there too.
So I fled without using my head and ran right after you.
That christmas eve I came in through your window
in a red hat and suit to make your dream come true
I spun you around and told you, You shouldn’t be alone
So that Christmas eve, I said I’d stay with you.
But then you forced me out the door and told me that I needed to go back.
That she’s expecting me to be there and I just can’t waste this chance.
But when you watched me walk away you watched me walk out of your life.
Because you realized that if i’m with her you can’t be by my side.
That christmas eve you realized that you loved me.
So you ran out after me but I was gone.
You screamed my name into the sky, fell to your knees and cried.
Because that Christmas eve you chose to let me go.
Oh, you didn’t realize what you had till it was gone.
Or maybe part of you ignored it and you knew all along.
But It’s too late to change your mind, you’re out of time you took too long.
And now that Christmas Eve’s a memory that hurts and just feels wrong.
And just like every year before and every single one to come.
You spent that christmas eve alone, no one to hold, no one to love.
You stayed in christmas eve, alone no one to love.
